Rules & Regulations
Hampden Heights Swim & Tennis Club Rules and Regulations

These Rules and Regulations are designed to promote the safety of members
and guests and provide for efficient operations and maintenance of the Hampden Heights Swim and Tennis Club (HHST). Failure of members to adhere to these Rules and Regulations will be reported to the Hampden Height Civic Association (HHCA) Board and may result in the suspension or revocation of an individual’s Membership.

 

Safety/Lifeguards

  • Lifeguards are on duty to enforce rules and regulations and to respond to
    emergencies. The first responsibility and priority of the lifeguards is to ensure the safety of pool users. Do not engage the lifeguard in unnecessary conversation.
  • Members are not permitted to enter the guard shack.
  • Obey the lifeguards at all times; all requests made by lifesaving personnel must be followed. The lifeguards have complete control over all activities in the pool area, and their instructions must be obeyed.
  • Emergency procedures must be observed. Swimmers must leave the pool area immediately upon the signal or request of the lifeguards.
  • Lifeguards must provide oversight to everyone using the pool. Young children and infants must be attended to by their parents at all times. Children 5 years and under must be directly supervised in the pool, WITHIN ARMS REACH AT ALL TIMES, by a responsible parent /guardian.
  • Lifeguards will provide a warning to children demonstrating concerning or unsafe behaviors. If the behavior persists, lifeguards will bring the behavior to the attention of the child\s responsible parent/guardian; this intervention will be documented in writing and provided to management company and HHCA Board.
  • Lifeguards have the discretionary power to ask that any person who causes a disruption, ignores requests to follow the rules and/or is abusive to the staff, immediately leave the facility. Any such occurrence will be documented in writing and provided to management company and HHCA Board.
  • The lifeguards must close the pool when they see or detect lightning, no matter what apparent distance away it might be.
  • The lifeguards will perform daily cleaning including emptying trash, restocking paper products and organizing the tables and chairs. Members should clean their own areas, leaving it as they found it. The bathrooms and showers will be deep cleaned once a week. If the bathrooms are found to be in need of maintenance, lifeguard staff should be informed so they may attend to it as soon as they can safely do so.

Conduct/Behavior

  • No conduct detrimental to safety will be tolerated. Walk at all times. No
    running, pushing, dunking or rough-housing in bathrooms, showers, or pool
    area. No spitting or throwing of water. No climbing, hanging, or pulling on safety devices.
  • Diving only permitted in designated areas.
  • No foul, abusive or excessively loud language permitted.
  • No smoking. Smoking or use of other tobacco products is not
    permitted anywhere within the property and grounds at any time.
  • Alcoholic beverages are allowed, and it is expected that adults will drink
    responsibly. At no point is underage drinking allowed. All members or guests who are publicly intoxicated may be asked to leave the premises if they engage in inappropriate behavior.
  • Children under 12 years old must always be accompanied by a responsible individual. Children ages 9-11 years old can receive a waiver to this rule if they have demonstrated sufficient swimming skills and pool safety awareness for the guard staff through a formal skills assessment. The waiver may be revoked if behavior concerns arise.
  • If a member is with a babysitter and the lifeguard determines the babysitter is not supervising the child satisfactorily, both will be asked to leave.
  • Users of the Pool shall be responsible for damage to property of HHST caused by their family and/or guests.

Baby Pool Rules

  • Use of the baby pool is restricted to children 5 years old and under and their
    responsible parent or guardian.
  • Lifeguards do not provide constant supervision of the baby pool. Children using the baby pool must be directly supervised by a responsible parent or guardian.
  • Swim diapers or plastic pants are required for swimmers who are diaper
    dependent.

General

  • All State and City Health Department Codes will be enforced. These include:
    the use of showers, not entering the pool with any infectious disease, and
    shutting down the pool if there is the presence of feces in the water. Swim
    diapers or plastic pants are required for participants who are diaper dependent.
  • Proper swim wear is required – No jeans or cut offs. No street clothes. No undergarments.
  • Small floating toys, rafts, rings, tubes or boards are allowed in the pool if not detrimental to safety. Use of such devices are at the discretion of the lifeguards.
  • The pool will be cleared every hour for a fifteen (15) minute adult swim period.
  • No glass containers or crockery of any kind is permitted.
  • Animals are not allowed inside the fenced area.
  • Members and their guests are not permitted to sell or provide goods or services on HSST property without prior consent from the HHCA Board.
  • All bicycles must be parked outside the fenced area at the bike rack and not be blocking the entrance/exit. Owners should ensure their bicycle is locked securely.
  • HHST is not responsible for lost or stolen articles or damages to any personal items.
  • The sand volleyball court is available to all members. Players should rinse off sand prior to entering the pool. Children are not permitted to dig in the sand volleyball court.
  • The pool is used by the Hampden Heights Swim Team. There are a few Saturday home meets which will delay free swimming. The dates will be communicated to members as soon as possible.

Guests/Rentals

  • Members must buy guest passes for all guests, whether or not their guests
    intend to swim.
  • Guests are expected to abide by all pool rules. Members are responsible for their guests and must be present for the entirety of their guests’ stay.
  • Each household may use a maximum of 10 guest passes per day, unless otherwise approved by membership and pool management company 7 days in advance.

What to do if you have requests, ideas or concerns:

The Hampden Heights Swim and Tennis is a club rooted in community with shared, common goals related to a safe, enjoyable use of the facility. If there are immediate concerns about the pool, please bring it to the attention of the lifeguards. For general concerns, suggestions or feedback, members should contact the HHCA Board.
